Things Most Buyers Overlook

When buying a home, people always consider the price, and condition of the home. And, there are also a lot of things that won’t come up until after buyers move into their new home. Here are a few items to consider while house hunting to help you enjoy your new house.

The Direction The Home Faces. The side of the street your house is on can have a big regard on the way you are able to enjoy your yard. In the Summer, the sun beats down on the West side of houses, making them very hot and uncomfortable. If you enjoy barbequing, or just relaxing in your back yard during the summer, you probably don’t want a house that faces east, unless there are mature trees to give you shade and provide comfort.

Places like Bloomington, that get lots of snow, can save their winter yard work by having the sun help with the removal of snow and ice. Snow melts much faster on driveways of Homes in Bloomington Minnesota that face South. When snow fall is just minimal, the sunshine will melt the snow and shoveling won’t be required. Houses that face the North, see almost no sun on cold winter days.

Do it Yourself “Projects”. Many first time home buyers buy houses that aren’t in a condition where they can truly be happy. They think that it will be easy to take care of the do it yourself projects, and get the house just the way they want. A few weeks into the project, do it your-selfers usually find that the projects take a lot longer than they had expected. Before they know it, ALL of their free time is spent on home repairs. If you like being a handyman, then fixer uppers are recommended. If you aren’t sure if you will like handiman work, then you may want to stay away from homes that require significant work.

Maintenance for Your Yard. Most first time buyers move from apartment complexes where others take care of the yard. Weeding, watering yards, planting flowers, and mowing lawns can take up a lot of time. If you have the extra time, and enjoy yard work then the yard maintenance required isn’t a factor. If you don’t have excess free time, then a high maintenance yard probably isn’t for you.

It’s amazing how fast weeds grow. Just a few days of neglect can lead to an out of control weed filled planter. If garden maintenance isn’t something you want to make a priority, then avoid buying a high maintenance yard. Automatic sprinklers, small flower beds and garden areas, and perennial plants are a few things to look for if you desire minimal yard maintenance.

Buying your first home is an important experience. In many ways it will become the center of your life. Take your time before buying Bloomington real estate, and consider how your life will really be impacted if you purchase this home.
